The Big Genre Choice

After researching many different types of genres that I thought would be a good fit for my film, I had to choose which one would be best for my film. I chose adventure as my genre because I felt that would be the best choice for what I want to accomplish. Another reason I chose adventure is that I felt that it was the best fit for the pitch that I chose. It would allow me to bring my idea to reality without having to structure it to include specific things. I felt that my pitch connected with this genre the most because it was the most flexible and not as structured as other genres. It allows me to not change anything I have as an idea so far for my film. One of the genres I thought maybe a good choice for my film was thriller. Thriller did not seem like a good fit for my pitch because it was too much excitement and engagement for the idea that I have for my film. I felt that my film was going to have a more formal or serious tone so I felt thriller wasn't the best. I also had a gut feeling that because of the types of costumes, lighting, and actors that were in thrillers I knew it was not a good choice for me because those did not go with the formal or serious tone of my film. Overall, thriller was not the right choice for me to choose it because it would not have allowed me to be able to film what I want without having to change aspects of it. Another genre that I researched for an idea was horror. Horror I thought would be a good choice because I would be able to go and use personification to give items and props human qualities that will be used to give an added sense to the viewer. But, after doing a bit more research I determined it was not the best choice for me to choose The parts of this genre that I felt made it the wrong choice were the types of shots and why they were used for that specific genre. I felt that those shots made the genre not the best for the type of film that I wanted to make. Most of the shots for this genre were to make one person overpower another as well as assert dominance and that was not needed to complete my pitch. This I felt was not that good for what I wanted to film because I wanted a formal and serious tone instead of having actors make others feel less powerful. Overall, horror did not make a good genre because of the shots and how it would affect my film. It did not allow my film to be a genuine film without seeming fake to me. That is why in the end I went with adventure because it allowed my film to be in its truest form.
