Title Design Research: Ecanto

1.     What titles are displayed during the opening sequences?

The use of titles is not used commonly throughout the film. The filmmakers used images to get their point across instead of using titles. They most likely did this because their targeted audience was most likely to get connected with images and not titles. 

2.     What images are prioritized in the opening sequence?

Some images that are prioritized throughout the opening scene are the establishing shots that are used. Other images are ones such as people looking at something with a close-up shot. Other images are prioritized because they show a prop that is important for the film. All of these images allow the filmmakers to be able to get their focus across to the viewer. 

3.     What connotation do these images carry?

The connotation that these images carry is an adventure. An image where someone is looking at a prop that is a map is all about them finding their end goal. Another image shown in the opening scene is when they are looking at a candle that is lit and it is representing the magic that they have. 

4.     How does the film establish a feeling of the genre from the outset?

The film establishes a feeling of the genre by showing how they are seeing what gives them their powers and how they get ready for an adventure. It also shows how they begin their adventure by going in the dark with a candle. It also establishes a feeling by building suspense of them walking in the dark with candles. 

5.     What strategies are used to ensure the film appeals to its target audience?

Some of the strategies that the filmmakers used were to grab the audience with camera angles. Some angles they used were close-ups to build suspense for the viewer to see what they are seeing. They also used wide shots to show them moving from one place to another. Another angle used was a tracking shot to follow the ground as it dropped down to the bottom. 

6.     How has technology been used effectively? 

 

Technology was used effectively throughout the film. The animation of the ground falling was used to show a disaster happening. The editing made the film seamlessly flow together to give the viewer a great way to enjoy the movie.

Today was the first day that I planned to film. It started off according to plan where I met the people that I would be filming with at their house to pick them up and get ready to film. We then headed back to my house to gather all of the supplies needed for the film. I then checked the weather forcast and saw that it was supposed to rain in two hours. Hi there, my name is Aaron Shaffer and I am a student at Fort Lauderdale High School. I am 16 years old and in my third year of high school. Over the years, through the opportunities I have been able to receive, I have been able to achieve a lot academically. Common Camera Angles • High-angles are used to show what is being looked down on as powerless and weak. • Close-up shots are included to focus on the character’s reaction to a scene. • Tracking shots are used to show a character being watched or followed. • Tilted angels often are added to add dramatic tension in a scene. • Extreme long shots are used to show the setting and overall atmosphere of the place. • Low-angle shots are used to show a character having power and strength. • Point of view shots is included to capture the audience’s attention with what the character is seeing.
